About

Welcome to my page! This blog is a project for the Spring 2009 Class “Electronic Literature,” taught by Gregory Ulmer at the University of Florida. I’m Kelly Tran, a 3rd year English major at the University.

This blog focuses on  two projects. The first is about Six Memos For The Next Millennium by Italo Calvino. In this book, Calvino describes different qualities that he holds as being the most important in good writing, and the posts contained within will try to explain these points. However, this is not a blog about traditional print literature, as the examples used within to explain these qualities are all pieces of electronic literature, henceforth referred to as “E-lit.”

The second part focuses on Maggie Macnab’s Decoding Design. This graphic design books explains how to create a brand identity. Our assignment was to create a brand identity for a work of literature. I chose The Crying of Lot 49 for this part of my blog.

In order to understand the relationship between print and electronic literature, I will also be referencing Electronic Literature: New Horizons for The Literary by N. Katherine Hayles. In this book, Hayles explains what modern technology can do for literature. Through the synthesis of these two books, I hope to explore what it means for literature to become a medium not of paper but of code.
